Raised in an artistic home, Amy Schrei has always had a passion for the creative arts, ranging from painting and drawing to her current love: handcrafting jewelry. Although she first trained as a chemist, she turned her passion for art and creativity into a career and now works as a graphic designer. Her technical background complements her love of jewelry design, combining technical skill with fine art.
She began studying silversmithing in 2002 at the Delaware College of Art and Design, where she mastered the art of sawing, piercing, filing, and soldering fine metals. Shortly after the classes, she established a professional home studio and has been creating and fabricating and selling her unique style of jewelry ever since.
Amy's work gravitates towards graphic images and shapes, and she loves color. Geometric or whimsically themed, her work has been described as "delicate" due to its detailed craftsmanship. However, this fine detail does not detract from the homemade look that Amy strives for. Overall, her jewelry is wearable for everyday, and not just as a statement piece.
All of the jewelry on "Handmade by Amy" is constructed and designed solely by Amy. With components of sterling silver or gold-filled metals, focal points of her work include semi-precious stones, dichroic glass, and handmade ceramic stones with accents of high-quality crystals, glass beads, and freshwater pearls.
Amy lives in Wilmington with husband Erik, a fine art photographer.
